"....changing our pace "
Judyie Al-Bilali (US)
"It was deeply relaxing and at the same time had a spiritual intensity and a magnificent opportunity to connect with the natural world. The variety of experiences and the pace of the journey were ideal. I started dreaming intensely in the Karoo and the dreams have continued, bright, complex, colourful, clear .There is undoubtedly a rich shamanic tradition connected to the land and the journey into the valley becomes a gentle and enjoyable initiation as in a beginning. At the same time you are enjoying wine and cooking outdoors collectively and the making of friends who are new only because you are meeting them for the first time. Time Out Of Time is a perfect introduction to the Karoo or a rich experience for those already familiar with the land and its beauty. Each step, arriving in Matjiesfontein, continuing to Prince Albert and then into the Valley are gradual steps into changing our pace. The journey allows an inner spaciousness match the beauty of the landscape around us."

"....rethink the time "
Elise Elsing (Germany/Gordons Bay)
"This was the title of our trip into the middle of nowhere. When I read about it I was totally stressed out because of what I perceived, was my lack of time. I was running in circles trying to do a million things at the same time. Now I was to spend four days out of time???? Little did I imagine what awaited me. Not only did I experience a sense of interconnectedness with my travelling companions and the unbelievable night sky with millions of stars, but I started to rethink time and my so called lack of it. I realised that if I am in the here and now, I do not even think about time. It is only if I want to be somewhere else in the unknown future that the stress sets in. So whenever my life gets too busy I am reminded of this timeless experience and I thank you Jana for creating the opportunity."

"....drama of the mountains "
Narda Rubens (Photographer Cape Town)
The train impressions - the beauty of the landscape and the sense of moving away from the clutter and noise to space opening up, wider vista more space and time to hear my thinking. And then the process of feeling the land - the landscape becoming Karoo - wide, incredibly diverse flora - the mountains slowly making their presence and their incredible energy, me feeling like a speck of dust in their rise through the earth and into the sky - some of that mighty upheaval still seems to be resonating. And then Die Hel where it is so easy to do nothing but enjoy the sounds and sights of the birds, baboons barking in the distance and the drama of the mountains, the skies and the earth in its turning, the changing colours of night, dawn, day and sunset and the spontaneous "real people" as we share this time and space.

"....peace and timelessness to recall "
Hilary Bassett (Cape Town)
"Although it is a few weeks now since I came back from this trip, it still lives in my mind to recall when I am feeling frazzled or disconnected. The rocks craggy and magnificent above, the aromatic plants soothing the senses, the sky a deep blue - the scene kind of entered my soul. There was a sense of dreamy peace and timelessness, as if no matter what we do to the planet, nature will surge back eternally and survive after we are gone. Like Yeats "while I stand on the roadway or on the pavements gray, I hear it in the deep heart's core."
